It is a place not compared with any other. It is located in the heart of one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. Ecuador’s Yasuni National Park is rich with extraordinary wildlife and vibrant local culture. Spanning nearly 2.5 million acres of Amazonian rain forest, this is truly a gem to be cherished. The Napo Wildlife Center the only lodge with in Yasuní National Park boundaries can take you there.

  1. 4 Days / 3 Nights Itinerary

    Day 1 – Morning

    We start a canoe ride along the Napo river for about 2 hours. We will have a box lunch in route. Along the way birds like herons, kingfishers and others can be spotted. After arriving at NWC’s entry dock, we disembark for restroom then we will take a majestic and peaceful 1 to 2 hours dugout canoe ride surrounded by trees overhead, paddling along a narrow creek that connects to the lake where the lodge is located.

    Day 1 – Afternoon

    Late afternoon we will arrive to the NWC lodge by the overwhelming view of the Añangu lake. We will enjoy a welcome drink and facilities.

    Day 2 – Morning

    Early wake up to reach the easier access parrot clay licks in Ecuador at about 1 hour away from the lodge. Guests reach there just before parrot activity kicks off at the clay lick between 7:30 to 8:30. A total of 11 species of parrots, parakeets and macaws can be seen. This visit will depend on weather conditions, but it is usually successful.

    Day 2 – Afternoon

    Later, hike along forest trail to visit the Kichwa Community of Añangu and sharing time with a family on their activities. Return to the creek and hike through a Terra Firme Forest for about 30 minutes until we arrive to the second parrot clay lick to find different species of parrots, parakeets and even macaws.

    Day 3 – Morning

    After early breakfast, depart from the lodge to the finest experience at a canopy tower on the Napo. A 36 meters high canopy tower opened to guests in November 2004, a great way to experience the life above the forest floor. This is the second tower at the Napo Wildlife Center. The first is attached to the dining hall and allows great views of the lake.

    Day 3 – Afternoon

    Afternoon visit to a terra firme trail. We will hike along primary forest to discover the forest interior, possibilities of finding lizards, colorful manakins or the unique and endemic Golden mantle tamarin monkeys.

    Day 4 – Morning

    Early departure and last excursion canoeing back to the Napo river. The creek may reveal new sights of Giant otters, Monk Saki monkeys or many other rare birds. Entry docking area, use of restrooms and embarking on motorized canoe in order to return to Coca.

     

  2. 5 Days / 4 Nights Itinerary

    Day 1 – Morning

    Late afternoon arrival at the lodge.

    Day 2 – Morning

    After a buffet breakfast, we will experience the life above the forest floor visiting the 36-meter canopy tower. This tower is located about 30 minutes from the lodge deep within the forest. Get a very good sample of the 567 species recorded so far, with a close look at colorful tanagers, macaws, toucans, flycatchers and even Spider or Howler Monkeys feeding themselves on the nearby trees. The canopy tower opens a completely new world to the guests of the Napo Wildlife Center.

    Day 2 – Afternoon

    After lunch, there are several options to choose before you start the afternoon activity: climb the dining room tree tower for seeking more birds, or just relax in your hammock. In the afternoon, we will hike through a marvelous terra- firme forest to discover the ecology and the role of plants in the complex world of the Tropical Rain-Forest: vines, ancient trees, bromeliads, orchids stand out in this impressive natural garden. After the hike, explore the surrounding creeks with possibilities of running into a Giant otter family.

    Day 3 – Morning

    This morning we will visit the best parrot clay licks in Ecuador. Early start and paddle downstream on the Añangu creek as far as the welcome area.

    Day 3 – Afternoon

    In the afternoon, we will visit the interpretation area to learn about traditions of the ancestral Kichwa community of Añangu.

    Day 4 – Morning

    This morning we will hike along the Tiputini trail and its terra-firma and swamp forests, searching for more wildlife such as Golden-Mantled Tamarins, White-Faced capuchin monkey, two and three toed sloths, pigmy squirrels, carnivores and their tracks on the forest floor.

    Day 4 – Afternoon

    Back to the lodge for lunch and a well-deserved rest. In the afternoon canoes will take you to explore deeper areas in the surrounding creeks with more possibilities of seeing unique wildlife. After dinner, a video about the community and Napo Wildlife Center will be shared with you.

    Day 5 – Afternoon

    Early breakfast, and last excursion canoeing back to the Napo river. The creek may reveal new sights of Giant otters, Monk Saki monkeys, hoatzins, blackcapped donacobius or other birds. The motorized canoe will take you back to Coca
